Michael Houston, Principal of HCG, Serves as Chairman of the Urban Land Institute Program

Houston Chaired the 7th Annual Real Estate Development Trends for the Treasure Coast Program

Despite the real estate sector in south Florida is experiencing a tough time, the local industry
leaders turned out in full force at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“This conference has traditionally been the best attended meeting of the year of our area’s
developers, planners, designers, engineers, architects and governmental agencies,” said Michael Houston, Chairman of the program and Principal of HCG.

A panel featuring residential, office, retail and industrial developers and industry experts provided a market overview. A second panel discussed the trends and opportunities of distressed real estate. A third panel, which included Ken Pruitt, President of the Florida Senate and West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel focused on the envisioning and long range planning of the Treasure Coast.

“Still, population growth is continuing on the Treasure Coast, and that's helping to absorb some of the glut in housing inventory,” said Brad Hunter, director of the South Florida division of housing data firm Metrostudy. With Baby Boomers poised to retire in the coming years, the long-term prospects for Florida look strong, many speakers at the conference agreed. 2 Two distinguished national real estate experts also spoke at the program. Anthony Downs, Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institute, discussed the housing crash and the timing for market turn around and Charlie Hewlett, Director of RCLCO/Robert Charles Lesser & Co., LLC delivered a presentation entitled: Recalibrating Your Strategy: How to Guard against the Downturn and Prepare for the Upswing.
