Don Cuozzo of HCG is Appointed as a Member of the Florida Inland Navigation District Governor Crist Appoints a Total of Six Members to the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) The mission of the Florida Inland Navigation District is to perform the functions of the "local sponsor" of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, a State and Federal navigation project that stretches from Miami to Jacksonville. In this capacity the District provides all lands required for the navigation project including rights of way and lands for the management of dredged materials removed from the waterway channel during dredging activities. Don Cuozzo, Principal of Houston Cuozzo Group, was recently appointed to the 12-member FIND by Governor Crist. "What a tremendous honor and responsibility," Cuozzo said of the term that will last through January 2013. "For the last 30 years I’ve enjoyed Florida’s waterways as a boater. Being in a position to now apply that knowledge and serve other boaters is very exciting." The District has several programs to ensure that the Atlantic Intracoastal and Okeechobee Waterways are kept clear and safe for public usage, to help people enjoy these waterways, and to protect Florida's manatees. Donald Cuozzo received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Technology in 1979 from the Florida Institute of Technology. Don co-founded Houston Cuozzo Group (HCG) in November of 1993 to provide planning, design, and government oriented strategic planning services for private and public sector clients in South Florida. Don has over twenty years experience in the planning, execution, and implementation of many varied projects throughout the region and has worked in nearly all facets of community and project development. Don began his career in the public sector with the Martin County Growth Management Department before leaving to work with a number of regional and national development companies as a project coordinator. As part of his development coordinator role, he was instrumental in the successful approval of the Martin Downs DRI amendment and the acquisition and development of a number of large residential communities in Palm Beach and Martin County. He was also a principal with a large Palm Beach County based engineering firm and has extensive experience in the area of project engineering, coordination, environmental permitting, governmental approvals and project management. He has been an expert witness in federal, state and local jurisdictions. Recently he has provided project coordination services to a number of national firms in the telecommunications industry throughout southeast and southwest Florida. Don has served on the boards for the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Martin County Business Development Board, Treasure Coast Builders Association, and The Board of Zoning Adjustment. Additional accomplishments include serving as Chairman for the Martin County Economic Council, a founding and continuing director for First Peoples Bank and a current member of the Florida Century Commission.
