Robin Pelensky of Houston Cuozzo Group Earns LEED Certification

Pelensky Passes the Exam on Her First Attempt to Become a LEED® Accredited Professional

LEED is a certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building techniques, the LEED Green Building Rating System, and the certification process.

"The principles of sustainable design and eco-friendly development are at the core of the landscape architecture profession. It's what we've been doing all along," said Pelensky. "Becoming a LEED(R) Accredited Professional was an important goal. I am excited to have achieved this designation."

The LEED AP program is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), which was established with the support of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to allow for objective, balanced management of the credentialing program. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

"Sustainable projects have always been the focus of HCG," said Michael Houston, Principal of HCG. "We are extremely proud of Robin's accomplishment as it continues to emphasize our commitment to LEED, the USGBC and green master planning."

Pelensky earned her Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida and joined HCG in 2007. She has been intimately involved in a wide range of projects at HCG including large and small scale master planning, streetscape and commercial design, as well as landscape and hardscape construction documents.

While at UF, Pelensky earned multiple awards including Graduate Student of the Year, a Seymour Graduate Student Award for graduate studies at the UF Paris Research Center, and a Florida ASLA Award of Merit. The ASLA award was in the category of Research and Communication and was titled "Walkability and Low Impact Development in Newberry, Florida: Design Guidelines for Rural Communities." The goal of the study was to devise a researched based method for developing design guidelines that will help sustain the small-town character of Newberry. The guidelines are intended to assist the town in its effort to achieve broader goals of economic prosperity, social equity and ecological health.
