Egypt's Gezira Sporting Club Commissions HCG to Create Master Plan

Cairo, Egypt / Stuart, Florida - November, 2009 - Houston Cuozzo Group, Inc. (HCG) was recently commissioned by Egypt's Gezira Sporting Club to produce a master plan and provide landscape architectural services for the club's new 50-acre satellite facility to be located in 6th October City, a fast-growing area east of Cairo and within a short distance of the Great Pyramids. The members-only Gezira Sporting Club, located in the heart of Cairo and in its 125th year of operation, is one of Egypt's greatest outdoor sporting attractions.

Located on 20.6 hectares (50 acres), the new club will be the Gezira Sporting Club's first off-site expansion since its founding by the British in 1884. Much of the new facility will be focused on competitive and recreational sports facilities for various youth and adult teams including swimming, diving, water polo, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball and tennis. The new club is expected to have 50,000 members in the next ten years.

The master plan includes a water sports complex with Olympic size swimming and diving pools, a sports field facility, a squash complex, track fields and a 20-court tournament tennis complex. Two sports buildings are planned for indoor sports events. Other features include a 2.5 acre children's facility, two gymnasiums, an equestrian center, a medical center and retail complex. The club will also feature an extensive underground service road system. The new Gezira Sporting Club is intended to reflect a number of the most significant and recognizable elements of the original club including the formal organization of the club's two main buildings, the Lido and the Social buildings. Situated at the terminus of a tree-lined boulevard, these two buildings will house restaurants, conference facilities, a reading hall, a beauty salon, a health club and spa, as well as a gym and adult swimming pool.

HCG is providing detailed design development plans for all of the major pools and activity centers and will coordinate with Egyptian firms providing engineering services. In addition, HCG has teamed with the Florida-based architectural firm of Garcia Stromberg in the creation of conceptual architectural designs of the Lido and Social buildings.
