Ernest Lyons Bridge Sewall's Point, FL
HCG worked on this $47 million design-build contract to provide landscape architecture design and construction support services. The build out includes a 1.37 mile precast segmental bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway, bridges to two recreational islands and reconstruction of approaches at each end of the main bridge. The west landing creates a gateway to the Town of Sewall's Point. The landscape design utilizes a mix of native and ornamental plants to provide for framing of the bridge. The west landing also includes an access road to a recreational island used for boating, picnicking, and fishing. The east landing has a decidedly more commercial context being the gateway for a hotel and a municipal land use. Live Oaks are planted as the dominant canopy tree and the palette is further enhanced with the more colorful Black Olive, and Cassia trees. Royal, Coconut, and Paurotis palms were installed to provide a tropical flair at this south Florida destination.
